I wanted to share a recent experience I had while looking for a lawyer, which I think is relevant to how potential clients might approach finding services like yours.

One issue that I often encounter is overly complex website designs with unnecessary animations and elements. I firmly believe that while a website should look appealing, complexity leads to lower engagement and conversion.

I was referred three firms. I fired them into Chrome with the aim or eliminating one as quickly as possible then choosing from the remaining two.

The first website had a confusing layout with strange tiles and random quotes. Being unique has its place. Wacky website designs make people think too hard and they leave.

The second website was slow to load and had a vague tagline that didn’t immediately convey the lawyer’s services. Again, the focus was on fancy animations rather than clear communication.

Finally, I came across a simpler website with a straightforward “Get in Touch” button on the homepage.

“Our People” was also prominent. I clicked and found the person I’d been referred, including their contacts details. Called their mobile, five minute chat and now I’m working with them.

I also can’t stress enough the value of having a dedicated “Team” page to showcase the professionals behind the services, as people connect with individuals in professional services.

Seeing through a prospect’s eyes in valuable. This experience emphasised to me the important of:

  • Simple website design (can still be creative and beautiful)
  • Strong calls-to-action
  • Personal touch
  • Does your site do all of the above?
